She worked with FLC professors to design a summer school program for at-risk youths. Liz oversaw a cohort of FLC students and a class of 20 middle school students.  She gave feedback and coached FLC students in the lesson/unit design.  She gave future secondary school teachers an overview of content-specific instructional methods and assessments.

Liz taught 7th & 8th grade US History and World History for eleven years at Bayfield Middle School.  She worked at Mountain Middle School for four years.  She has served as the teacher leader for the past four years. Liz co-taught 8th grade Math, Science, and Humanities at Mountain Middle School.

She works at Fort Lewis College as a Senior Lecturer in the Teacher Education Department.

She is passionate about implementing reading and writing strategies in all content areas and has been acknowledged for improving ELA state testing scores. She is also very passionate about individualizing Math lessons for struggling students. Math was Liz’s most challenging subject while in school. She knows how to help those who feel like the subject isn’t clicking.

Liz’s education and teaching experience have allowed her to develop strong leadership and communication skills. It is more important than ever to create a supportive learning culture that integrates technology into a rigorous curriculum to prepare students to achieve their highest academic and social potential.   Liz believes in creating individualized and engaging learning opportunities to prepare students for post-graduate success in the 21st century.

Liz is originally from Glen Ellyn, IL, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  She spent most of her childhood fishing with her dad and hiking with her mom.  Through an exchange program with Illinois State University, she moved to Durango and decided that Durango was her place.  She lives on a small ranch in Hesperus with her husband and animals.   She loves reading, mountain biking, and hiking with her dogs and goats.
